Among John"s literary works are Takin’ lieutenant Back (2005) a sports-themed novel, the historical novel Cheyenne Rising Sun (2004). Kuri is a Senior Fellow with the Culture of Lawfulness Project for the National Strategy Information Center, a Washington, District of Columbia - based education and research foundation. Kuri wrote the Foreword to 2013 book "Separation of Powers & The Rule of Law, the Lebanese System" from Doctor Akl M. Kairouz and Doctor Issam Y. Atala.
Kuri is a graduate of Army Navy Academy, winning the William Randolph Hearst national rifle marksmanship championship.
Kuri"s filmography has over 40 titles including his true story of the Donner Party, One More Mountain (1994) for Disney"s Wonderful World of Color and American Broadcasting Company Television" for which he received the Christopher Award, the Louis L’Amour western, Conagher (1991), for which the National Cowboy Hall of Fame awarded him their Western Heritage Award, the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer release starring Pat Morita Captive Hearts (1987), he co-created the American Broadcasting Company series Ohara starring Pat Morita (1987) and he was "Emmy-nominated" for John Steinbeck"s The Red Pony, starring Henry Fonda in 1973.
