(Secret societies generate fear, suspicion, and - above al...)
Secret societies generate fear, suspicion, and - above all - fascination. To many, their secrecy suggests sacrilege, crime, and conspiracy. Their loyalties are often accused of undermining governments and tipping the scales of justice. The Freemasons, for example, hold more seats of power in the US government than any other organization. No fewer than sixteen presidents have declared their Masonic affiliation, and there may have been more. Secret societies have infiltrated pop culture as well. Celebrity members of Kabbalah include Madonna, Demi Moore, and Elizabeth Taylor, among others.

(Del Smith is just one of a dozen or so unforgettable char...)
Del Smith is just one of a dozen or so unforgettable characters who appear in this much-heralded tale of murder among the spectacular beauty of Tennessee's Smokey Mountains. It's all here - massive drug deals, orgies in a hillside mansion, prison escapes, violent death and a cast of characters worthy of a Tennessee Williams play. In the midst of it all appear a local high society beauty, and the hell-raisin' youngest son of the author's oldest friend. Together they create a crime that is still being talked about in the Great Smokies many years later. In MAD NOTIONS, John Lawrence Reynolds strips away layers of lies, deception and hypocrisy to expose the dark side of the American dream in a story that grows ever more fascinating and bizarre on its way to a stunning conclusion.

(When investment banker Porter Mayfield and adventurous tr...)
When investment banker Porter Mayfield and adventurous trophy wife Bethany tour England in a rented Bentley, they expect to enjoy the scenery and culture on their way to the storied town of St. Ives. They do not expect to encounter gory evidence, in various otherwise lovely old churches, of revenge exacted upon Harry McNie. Harry, they learn from various eccentric characters along the way, was a womanizing brute whose demise, as gory as it appears, does not shock local townsfolk. Not even the tolerant constabulary. Porter and Bethany continue their journey to St. Ives, broken by romantic interludes, ghost stories, and the sudden and dramatic appearance of an explanation of McNie's murder... followed by a literally chilling end to Porter and Bethany.
