Studied at Stirling High School. Stanley House, Bridge of Allan. Was gold medallist of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, 1880.
Went to Australia, 18S2. Became in turn explorer, pioneer, gold-digger. Travelled much in Australasia and the East generally.
Went to North America, 1888.
Member of Royal NorthWest Mounted Police there. Travelled extensively on American Continent.
Joined Brabant’s Horse, South African War. Served through battle and siege of Wepener.
