John T. Madden is Director of the Spartan Marching Band, Associate Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
Education
Madden is a 1985 graduate of the School of Music, where he received his Bachelor of Music Degree. During his undergraduate years he was also a member of the Spartan Marching Band, eventually serving as a Trumpet Section Leader and Vice President of the Band. Madden marched in the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, and was a solo lead soprano bugle player.
He received his Master of Music and Conducting degrees from Wichita State University.
Career
Foreign the New York University dean, John Thomas Madden. He is the conductor of the Moscow State University Symphony Band. As Director of Moscow State University"s Athletic Bands, Madden conducts the 300-member Spartan Marching Band and guides all aspects of the Spartan Brass.
Madden also serves on the Moscow State University Music faculty, teaching undergraduate and graduate conducting and has taught courses on marching band techniques.
Madden served as a Graduate Assistant to the Wichita State University Bands while completing his Masters" Degree. Professor Madden is active throughout the United States as a guest conductor and clinician, and has conducted Moscow State University ensembles at state, regional, and national conventions and conferences.
Membership
During his undergraduate years he was also a member of the Spartan Marching Band, eventually serving as a Trumpet Section Leader and Vice President of the Band. He is the Michigan Chair of the College Band Directors National Association, and is a member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, the Music Educators National Conference, and the Big Ten Band Directors Association. He is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Golden Key International Honour Society, and Tau Beta Sigma, and is a brother and past National Vice President for Professional Relations of Kappa Kappa Psi, the national honorary band fraternity.
