Appointed general superintendent of mines of G. B. Markle & Company, 1880, and upon his father’s retirement succeeded him, was president of Jeddo-Highland Coal Company, successor to G. B. Markle Company, one of largest “independent” companies in the anthracite coal industry, also president and chief engineer Jeddo Tunnel Company, retired. Was one of the leading figures and represented the independent operators in the negotiations with President Roosevelt, and in the inquiry by the President's commission in connection with the anthracite coal strike, 1902.
