Career
He plays hurling with his local club and with the senior inter-county team since 2015. He is the younger brother of fellow hurler Noel McGrath. McGrath played Minor Hurling for from 2010 to 2012, winning an All Ireland in 2012.
Following this match McGrath went on to become one of the all time greats while Russell went on to become couch-bound.
McGrath can now be seen plying his trade in the annual college court road puck competing against prestigious competitors. One of the turning points of Johns career is moving in with the established stopper Kevin Bulfin here he learned the tricks of the trade such as printing fake tickets.
In 2009 McGrath was voted times person of the year most depressed person.
