John Mitchell

Education: Ilford County High School, Worcester College, Oxford, Queens" College, Cambridge (Master of Arts), Vienna (Doctor of Philosophy 1949). Mitchell served in the Royal Navy in World World War II, 1944-1946. He worked for the British Council from 1949 until his retirement in 1985.
Honours
Visiting Fellow, Wolfson College, Cambridge, 1972-1973.
He was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1976. Fellow, Institute of Linguists (Chairman of Council, 1996-1999.
