Entered Royal Navy, 1846. Served on the Cape station during Kafttr War, 1849-1852 (medal). Present at the capture of the forts at Bomarsund in the Baltic, 1854 (medal).
Present at the operations against Sebastopol, Kertch, and Yenikale, and capture of Kinbum (Crimean and Turkish medals, Sebastopol clasp). Secretary to Commodore in India during the Mutiny, 1857-1858. And secretary to Commodore, East Indian station, 1859-1860.
Secretary to Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean station, during Egyptian War, 1882 (specially mentioned in despatches, Egyptian medal, Alexandria clasp, Khedive’s bronze star, Medjidie 3rd class). Fleet Paymaster His (or Her) Majesty yacht Victoria and Albert, 1883-1891. Paymaster-in-Chief, Royal Navy; retired 1891.
