He also had a distinguished career in the Indian Police where he was awarded the Indian Police Medal for gallantry in 1935, the Indian Bar 1940 and was made Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1946. John Percival Morton was born on 15 May 1911 and educated at Bedford Modern School. After Indian’s Independence in 1947 he was posted to London as ‘Principal, War Office’.

He was later Assistant Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Defence between 1968 and 1971
He died in 1985 in Wokingham, Berkshire.
