On Richard III's succession to the throne, Morton returned to his Lancastrian allegiance and became the master mind behind the efforts of the Lancastrian Henry VII to seize the crown.
Morton was imprisoned for his activities but escaped to Flanders, returning to England only after Henry's victory over Richard at Bosworth Field in 1485.
