Nater attended Carleton University from 2003 to 2007 and earned a Bachelor"s Degree in Public Policy and Administration.

Education and Early Born in Logan Township (now part of the Township of West Perth), Nater was raised on a family pig farm. After graduation, he subsequently received a Master’s Degree in public policy at Queen"s University in 2008. During this time Nater volunteered and later became special assistant to Member of Parliament Gary Schellenberger.
Municipal Office
In the Ontario municipal elections in October 2010 Nater was elected to the Council of the Municipality of West Perth as a representative for the Mitchell Ward.
Federal Office
On election night 2015 Nater was elected with 22,255 votes, the second highest number of votes cast for a single candidate in Perth-Wellington since the riding was created in 2004. Nater credited his victory to extensive canvassing and a dedicated group of volunteers.
Nater delivered his maiden speech in the House of Commons of Canada on January 29, 2016. On February 17, 2016 Nater was selected as Vice Chair of the House Standing Committee on Official Languages.
Personal Nater is married and has one child.
