He began the study of architecture at Cornell University, and shortly after he graduated moved to Charleston to begin his professional career.
From 1905 until the time of his death Mr. Newcomber practiced under his own name, commissioned as architect of several well known structures in Charleston. Among them was the first Post-Courier Building, 1912; Citizens Bank Building on King Street; a remodeling of the Atlantic Savings Bank, High School of St. Paul s Parish, a number of residences.
