Five daughter Left Scotland for Durban, Natal, 1860. Has carried on business as builder and timber merchant for 34 years. Foreign several years a volunteer in the Durban Field Artillery.
Joined the Durban Town Council in 1885.
Has been twice Deputy Mayor and four times elected Mayor of the borough. Justice of the Peace for eight years.
