Education

John Vernon Pavlik received from the University of Wisconsin in Madison his Bachelor of Arts in 1978. He also received from the University of Minnesota in Twin Cities a Master of Arts in 1980 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1983.

Career

Pavlik was public relations officer at American Family Insurance Group, Madison, Wisconsin in 1977-1978. Then he worked at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Minneapolis as instructor in journalism, mass communication, and marketing in 1981-1982. Pavlik worked for Pennsylvania State University, University Park as an assistant professor of communications from 1982 to 1988, then became graduate studies director for the School of Journalism from 1984 to 1986.

Besides, he worked for Columbia University, Freedom Forum Media Studies Center, New York City as an associate director for research and technology studies, member of editorial board, and developer of computer software from 1988 to 1994, became director of library between 1988 and 1993, and the was co-director of research group from 1990 to 1994.

Meanwhile, John Pavlik served for San Diego State University as professor of communication and director and for the School of Communication, both in 1994-1995. Since 1995 he was executive director at the Center for New Media and professor of Columbia University, Graduate School of Journalism. From 1994 to 1995 he was co-chair of InfoSan Diego at the City of the Future.

Achievements

• Pavlik received grants from Honeywell Inc., Los Angeles Foundation in 1995 and Institute for Public Relations Research and Education in 1995.
