Fellow of the University of Madras. Received the Telford medal of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Lieutenant R.E. 1858.
Colonel 1887; Abyssinian Campaign 1867. (mentioned in despatches and medal). Thirtyfour years in Public Works Department, Madras, of which was the head for 54 years.
Also some time member of the Legislative Council, Madras. President of the Sanitary Board, and of the Faculty of Engineering in the University of Madras. Chief Engineer and Secretary to Government in the Marine and Public Works Department.
