He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Cheshire. Potts, who played for one season with Leicestershire Second XI, having previously played for Staffordshire, made his debut List A appearance in the 1992 National Westminster Trophy, against Cheshire. From the lower order, he scored a duck with the bat, and took figures of 0-47 with the ball.
He played in the following year"s competition, against Nottinghamshire, taking one wicket and scoring a single run.
