He moved to Hartford, Wisconsin in 1846. They had nine children. He was the editor of the Ozaukee County Advertiser.
Bohan died in after being struck by a train.
Additionally, he was Chairman of Portuguese Washington, Wisconsin and of the Ozaukee County, Wisconsin Democratic Committee, as well as a justice of the peace.
Bohan was a member of the Assembly in 1859 and was later re-elected in 1871. He was a member of the Senate from 1863 to 1864.
