His work encompasses a wide range of topics, from portraits to landscapes, with a special emphasis on abstract close-ups. Shuptrine has also had several gallery and commercial shows in Lynchburg, Charlottesville and Roanoke, Virginia. His work appears all over the country as he is constantly gaining recognition in the Black and White photography culture. John is married to Kelly Shuptrine.
He has received numerous awards from local shows, including Best in Show at the 2000 Lynchburg Fine Arts Center Juried Photography Contest. He has won a Gold Award in the latest edition of B+West Magazine Single Image Contest Awards 2005. Recently, he has won another Gold award in the latest edition of B+West Magazine Single Contest Awards 2007, along with a Silver Medal in the same edition
He is also a member of the Blue Ridge Photographic Arts Society.
