Career
Foreign the Governor of the United States. State of New Hampshire, see John Hardy Steele. Born in Charleston, South Carolina and was living in Georgia by the 1830s. He served as secretary to George West. Crawford during his governorship and when he was Secretary of War under President Zachary Taylor.
He edited Jared Whitaker"s Daily Intelligencer from 1860 until his death.
A few months later (in April) the newspaper also died after fierce competition from newcomer the Atlanta Constitution.
