He was educated at Harrow School, the University of Street Andrews and Queen"s College, Edgbaston before embarking on a curacy at Street Peter’s Hillfields.

From 1987 until 1994 he was Vicar at Street Chad, Smethwick, then Bloxham for a further 9 years before promotion to Area Dean of Deddington in 2002. His pastoral dedication lead to elevation to the Episcopate when Anthony Priddis was promoted to Hereford. He was installed at Coventry Cathedral on 1 May 2005.
