Taoyuan County upgrade
In July 2014, with the future plan to upgrade Taoyuan County becomes special municipality in end of 2014, Wu said that the Taoyuan name will only be Taoyuan without the City name. The current county-controlled city Taoyuan City name will become Taoyuan District to avoid confusion after the upgrade.

Politics
Wu was elected to be the Magistrate of Taoyuan County on 5 December 2009 after winning the 2009 Republic of China local election under Kuomintang and assumed office position on 20 December 2009. In 2014, Wu joined the 2014 Republic of China municipal election to be the Kuomintang Mayor candidate of the soon to be formed Taoyuan City, going against Cheng Wen-tsan of the Democratic Progressive Party.
