HARVIE-BROWN, John A. was born on August 27, 1844 in Scotland. Son of John HarvieBrown, Quarter and Shirgarton, who took the name Brown by the will of the late Alexander Brown, Quarter, and Elizabeth Spottiswoode, daughter of late Thomas Spottiswoode, Dunipaee.

Career
Has devoted much time to the Vertebrate Fauna of Scotland, Britain, and foreign countries. To a study of Migration of Birds (member of the British Association Committee on the subject). Dispersal and Distribution of Species and kindred subjects.
And for the purposes of natural history observations has travelled in Norway, Russia, and Transylvania, Faroe Isles and Rockall, and all around Scottish coasts and amongst Scottish Archipelago of islands. Member British. Ornithologists’ Union; Honourable Life Fellow of the American Ornithologists Union; Justice of the Peace Stirlingshire; landed proprietor.
