John Ashley Wells, American lawyer. Decorated Commendation ribbon; named Distinguished Alumnus Wesleyan University, 1973. Served to Lieutenant commander of The United States Navy Reserve, 1944-1945.; Member Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Kappa Epsilon.


Wells, John Ashley was born on January 14, 1908 in New York City. Son of Lucien Roys and Maude (Suckert) Wells.


Bachelor of Arts with high honors and high distinction, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut, 1932. Bachelor of Arts Juris (Rhodes scholar), Oxford (England) University, 1934, Bachelor of Civil Law, 1935, Master of Arts, 1953. Master of Laws, Harvard University, 1936.


Admitted to New York bar, 1937, District of Columbia Bar, 1953, also Supreme Court of the United States Court. With firm Hughes, Schurman & Dwight, New York City, 1936-1937, Dwight, Harris, Koegel & Caskey, New York City, 1937-1941. A chief counsel OPA, 1942.

Chief assistant counsel New York State Moreland Commission, 1943. Assistant counsel Navy Price Adjustment Board, 1944-1945. Partner, then senior partner firm Rogers & Wells, and predecessors, New York City and Washington, 1947-1980.

Chairman advising committee on enforcement policies and practices Securities and Exchange Commission, 1972. Manager Republican political campaigns, 1948-1969.
