Career

Rancher, Navarro, Texas, circa 1856-1861. Adjutant Texas 15th Infantry, Confederate Army, 1861-1863. Captain Texas Infantry brigade, 1863-1865.

Elected member Texas Legislature, 1868, denied seat by reconstruction regime. Major Frontier Battalion of Texas Rangers, 1874-1879, suppressed Indian violence Western borders of state, pursued outlaws in interior regions. Pacified mob in El Paso (Texas) during “Salt War,” 1877.

Adjutant general of Texas, 1879-1881.
