(An in-depth look at the rise and fall of Chilean Presiden...)
An in-depth look at the rise and fall of Chilean President Salvador Allende as it was covered in The New York Times. Discusses news bias and omissions as well as propoganda, and asserts that rather than being unbiased, balanced coneyors of information, major newspapers use propoganda to legitimize fascist assaults on left-wing democratic governments because the conservative and moderate metromedia owners prefer capitalist-saving fascism to expropriating left-democracy. Included is a chronology of Chilean events from 1962 to 1973, leading to the anti-Allende coup, a list of propoganda devices used by the news media and discussions on the history and target audience of such stories.

( Attitudes toward integration in urban settings are fil...)
Attitudes toward integration in urban settings are filled with stereotypes. The studies presented in this volume were undertaken to discern the nature of these stereotypes and to discover the truths behind them. The focus for them was a referendum to ban discrimination in the sale and rental of housing in Berkeley, California in the early 1960s. Race, Class, and Political Consciousness gives a new view of the political consciousness of varying groups of people, from blue-collar workers to university professors. Through this analysis the author looks to the future, and ties his conclusions into recommendations in the political sphere. Careful study of Professor Leggett's findings would repay anyone interested in understanding the transformation of the American political system which is now taking place.
