Promoted through various grades to rank of captain, October 10, 1906. Commanded United States Ship Pinta, 1875-1877 (suppressed riots Baltimore, 1877). United States Ship Drift, 1883-1885.

Torpedo boat Porter in Spanish-American War. Commandant Cavite Navy Yard, 1899-1901. United States Ship Calgoa, 1902-1903.

Was commanding United States monitor Florida, June 1903. 6 months’ special duty as expert on searchlights on army board for coast fortification, 1902. Naval attache Paris and St. Petersburg, 1906-1907.

Commanding Mississippi, 1908-1909.
