Member Kentucky Legislature, 1851-1852. United States commercial agent on Island of St. Thomas, 1853-1858. United States consul general, Havana, Cuba, 1858-1861.

Special agent for Confederate States American to West Indies, residing in Havana, 1861-1866. Lived in Toronto, Canada, 1866-1868.
