Lieutenant 3rd Battalion Oxford Light Infantry, 1879. 2nd Lieutenant Gth Dragoon Guards, and entered Royal Horse Guards, 1880. Major, 1895; served in Egyptian Campaign, 1882, and Nile Campaign, 1884-1885 (medals and clasps, despatches).
Second in command of forces of Imperial British South Africa Company Matabeleland, 1890-1891.
Matabeleland Conquest, 1893. Accompanied Doctor Jameson, Companion of the Bath, into the Transvaal, 1896.
Served South Africa, 1899-1900. Was in Ladysmith with Cavalry Headquarter Staff during the siege, and appointed Major under General Hunter, in charge of the transport of the Flying Column for the relief of Mafeking, also employed on the Intelligence Department (medal and clasps, despatches).
Owns properties in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. 5th Baronet; cartulary-register 1794. Justice of the Peace Oxfordshire.
