Young, John Clarke was born on August 12, 1803 in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Review John and Mary (Clarke) Young.

Education

Attended Columbia; graduate Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, 1823, Princeton Theological Seminary, 1827.

Career

10 children including Doctor William, Sarah Lee, Eugenia. Tutor, College of New Jersey (now Princeton). Pastor McChord (now 2d) Presbyterian Church, Lexington, Kentucky, 1828.

President Centre College, Danville, Kentucky, 1830-1857.

Became pastor Presbyterian Church, Danville, 1834. Organized 2d Presbyterian Church for students at Centre College, 1852.

Moderator Synod of Kentucky, 2 times. Opposed abolitionists, but favored gradual emancipation.

Moderator General Assembly of Presbyterian Church, 1853.
