"A Mississippi Reader" is a compilation of the best of forty years of articles in The Journal of Mississippi History and is a long-needed supplement to the general histories of Mississippi. A board of editors headed by Dr. John E. Gonzales selected nineteen articles for "A Mississippi Reader" from more than five hundred articles which have appeared in The Journal of Mississippi History since its first issue in 1939.
