Admitted to Texas bar, 1910, practiced in Erath and Stephens Companies, 1911-1926. Elected The American Association For Justice Court Civil Appeals, Eastland, November, 1926. Became chief justice by appointment February 1928, elected November 1928, re-elected November 1934.

Became judge communications of Appeals, State of Texas, May 1935. Presiding judge Section A, 1943. Became Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Texas by constitutional amendment September 21, 1945.

Elected for 6 year term, 1946, chief justice, 1948-1961. Trustee Southern Methodist U., Dallas, 1921-1962. Trustee Southwestern Legal Foundation.

Chairman Conference Chief Justices, 1952-1953.
