Raker, John Edward was born on February 22, 1863 in near Knoxville, Illinois, United States. Son of Christian and Mary E. (Rambo) Raker.

Educated State Normal School, San Jose, California, 1882-1884. Read law with Judge E. V. Spencer, Susanville, California.

Career

E. V. Spencer, November 21, 1889. Admitted to bar, 1885. In practice at Alturas, California, since 1886.

Director First National Bank, Alturas Mercantile Company, Inter-Valley Milling and Warehouse Company, Alturas Mercantile Company, Warner Valley Stock Company, Oregon District attorney Modoc County, California, 1895-1898. Judge Superior Court, 1905-1910, resigned. Member 62d Congress (1911-1913), 1st California District and 63d to 68th Congresses (1913-1925), 2d District.
