Bachelor of Science, United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland., 1910. Student Field Artillery School, 1924-1925, Command and General staff schedul, 1925-1926, Army War College, 1931-1932, Chemical Warfare School, 1932.


Commissioned Second lieutenant, United States Army, 1911, advanced through ranks to major general, 1942. Served in Panama, 1914-1917. Commanded 30th Field Artillery, World War.

Professor military science and tactics, Texas A. and M. College, 1926-1931. Instructor Field Artillery School, 1917-1918, Command and General staff schedul, 1932-1936. Service in Hawaii, 1936-1938.

Professor military science and tactics, Oregon State College, 1938-1940. Brigadier general, commanding 8th Division Artillery, Fort Jackson, South Carolina., 1941, major general commanding 88th Infantry Division 1942 to 44, took part in Italian Campaign and capture of Rome.
