Construction engineer and master of transportation Central Iowa Railway, 1883-1886. Bridge engineer A.,T.&San Francisco R.R., 1886-1889. Resident engineer Chicago, Madison & Northern R.R., 1889-1891.

With I.C. R.R., 1891-1904, as engineer of construction, 1891-1892, chief engineer, 1892-1897, assistant to 2d vice president, 1897-1900, assistant general manager, 1900-1901, general manager, 1901-1904. 1st American chief engineer Panama Canal, 1904. Isthmian Canal commissioner and vice-president and general manager Panama R.R. & Steamship Company, 1905.

President and Chairman, Board Of Directors Westinghouse, Church, Kerr & Company, 1906-1917. Designed and constructed World’s Fair terminals, Chicago, 1892. Also new pass. terminals for C.&N.W. R.R., Chicago.

Conducted extensive surveys and examinations and created the initial organization for Panama Canal, etc. Chairman Chicago Railway Terminal Commission. Adviser and consultant to large corporations Independent.
