Admitted to Ohio bar and Ohio federal courts, 1865, later to the United States Circuit Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of the United States Court. Practiced in Cleveland. Member White, Cannon & Spieth.

President Public Library Board, Cleveland, 1884-1886, and since 1913.

Member board of trustees Cleveland Law library association.
