Admitted to South Carolina. bar, 1878, and practiced at Clayton and Gainesville, Georgia. Moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas, 1890, and to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, 1896. Became mayor of Tahlequah, 1900.

Judge 1st Judicial Circuit Court of Oklahoma, 3 terms 1907-1919. Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, November 1919, term ending January 1925. Became vice chief justice.
