Admitted to Texas bar, December 1885. In 1886, became interested in pine timber lands in Eastern Texas, inducing large investments therein by bankers and others of Boston, the management of the properties purchased being committed to his hands. Moved to Houston, 1890.
In 1893, began construction of Gulf, Beaumont & Kansas City Railroad, which he sold to A.,T.&San Francisco Railroad, 1900.
1901 organized and became president the Kirby Lumber Company, with capital of $10,000,000. President Texas World’s Fair communications of Saint Louis Exposition, 1903.
Member Texas House of Representatives, 1912 and 1926. Member President Harding’s Unemployment Conference, 1921.
