Served as recorder of deeds, Chairman of the Board supervisors, et cetera, Bureau County. Took government census of county, 1840. Elected to Illinois legislature, 1842 and 1858.
Democrat until 1844.
Then joined Liberty party. Free-soil candidate for Congress, 1854. Delegate to convention for organizing Republican party, Pittsburgh, 1856.
