Came to the United States in youth. Academic education in Canada.

Career

Professor mathematics and literature, Seton Hall College, New Jersey, at outbreak of Civil War. Served as Private Company A, United States engrs., February 3, 1865-November 11, 1867. Second lieutenant 1st Infantry, October 28, 1867.

Promoted through grades in regular army to colonel 30th Infantry, April 20, 1903. Brigadier general and retired by operation of law, December 16, 1904.

Membership

Served in Black Hills campaign, against Sioux Indians, 1875.
