Entered Royal Marines, 1855. Colonel-Commandant Royal Marine Light Infantry, 1899-1902. Has taken much interest in recruiting for both the sea and land forces, and in the employment of ex-sailors and soldiers. Vice-Chairman of the National Employment Society for Reserve and Discharged Soldiers, et cetera Member of Defence Committee of the London Chamber of Commerce and of Council of Marine Society (TrainingShip “ Warspite ”). Takes much interest in the Boys’ Brigade, of which he is a Vice-President. Also member of London Council, and Honourable President City and East London Battalion. A Director of the Sailors’ Home, Well Street. Cartulary-register 1906.
