Studied at King’s College School, London. Intended for father’s profession of naval architecture, but developed early predilection for stage. Studied elocution under late John Ryder.
Made first appearance at Old Court Theatre under John Clayton.
Then joined one of Sir C. Wyndham’s companies for “Betsy”. Subsequently joined Sir Henry Irving, and remained with him for many years, accompanying him on his various tours through America. Has appeared at Court, Avenue, Terry’s, and Garrick Theatres, and managed Lyceum, Prince of Wales, Court, Royalty, and Apollo Theatres.
