Background

Thurston, John Mellen was born on August 21, 1847 in Montpelier, Vermont, United States. Son of Daniel Sylvester and Ruth (Mellen) Thurston.

Education

Removed to Wisconsin, 1854. Educated at public schools and Wayland U., Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, supporting himself by farm work, driving teams and other manual labor. Admitted to bar, May 21, 1869.

Following October located in Omaha.
