Mason, John Mitchell was born on March 19, 1770 in New York City. Son of Review John and Catharine (Van Wyck) Mason.

Graduate Columbia, 1789. Attended U. Edinburgh.

Career

Established theological seminary to educate Scotch Presbyterians (later became Union Theological Seminary), New York City, 1804. Founder, editor Christian’s Magazine, 1806. Trustee Columbia, 1795-1811, 1812-1824, provost, 1811-1816.

President Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, 1821-1824. Author: A Plea for Sacramental Communion on Catholic Principles, 1816.
