Career

Newspaper work in Albany and Hartford, Connecticut, 1884-1893. Social welfare and settlement work, Hartford, Chicago Commons and Pittsburgh region, 1893-1902. With Associated Press as Albany correspondent, 1902-1909, chief of Washington bureau, 1909-1911, superintendent central division at Chicago, 1911-1912.

With New York Evening Post as Washington correspondent, 1912-1913, managing editor, 1913-1918, vice-president and director, 1920-1922.

Director and member literature conference Harper Brothers, 1918-1920. Traveled much abroad.

Writer on education and international affairs Vice president Survey Associates, and associate editor The Survey, since 1927.

Trustee Common Council for American Unity.
