During his administration the operations of the society were extended, new laws for protection of animals enacted, reforms in transportation of animals instituted, brutal and demoralizing “sports,” pigeon shooting, rabbit coursing, suppressed, and many forms of cruelty checked or abolished.

Owner of celebrated Cranmoor Farm, Toms River, New Jersey Invented and patented the Haines’ electric log, by means of which the speed of vessels is indicated and registered in any part of a vessel.
