Tillman, John Plummer was born on January 25, 1849 in Perry County, Alabama, United States. Son of John Miller and Mary Elizabeth (Plummer) Tillman.

Education

Howard College, Marion, Alabama, 1865-1868. University of Kentucky, 1868-1870 (non-graduate). Studied law in office of Edmund W. Pettus and Nathaniel H. R. Dawson, Selma, Alabama.

Career

Admitted to Alabama bar, 1871. Practiced at Selma until 1883. Special reporter Alabama Supreme Court Montgomery, Alabama, 1883-1884.

Removed to Birmingham, 1884. Became member Tillman, Bradley & Morrow. Firm attys. for L.&N. Railroad Company, Seaboard Air Line Railway, Birmingham Railway, Light & Power Company, Birmingham Trust & Savings Company, American Radiator Company, Standard Oil Corporation of Alabama, etc.

City attorney, Selma, 1872-1873. Member City Council, 1878-1879. One of code commissioner of Code of Alabama, 1886.
