John R. Carlson is an American biologist and professor The Carlson lab studies insect chemosensation using the model organism Drosophila. Significant contributions to the field include a study that identified ligands for most of the Drosophila Olfactory Receptor (Or) repertoire and a similar study that characterized the Or repertoire of the Anopheles gambiae mosquito.
Carlson lab research has also been featured in Scientific American.
Carlson earned his Bachelor of Arts at Harvard University in 1977 and his Doctor of Philosophy from Stanford University in 1982.
