Butler, John Vernon was born on August 24, 1868 in Birmingham, England. Son of Thomas and Hephzibah (Vernon) Butler.
Studied voice culture and organ with prominent Boston and London teachers.
Organist and choirmaster Chestnut Street Congressional Church, Worcester, Massachusetts. Founder and conductor Worcester Oratorio Society, 1897-1937, at which has been given the first performance in the United States of several important choral compositions. Conductor Worcester Woman’s Club Choral Class, 1919-1930.
Vice president Worcester County Music Festival Association, 1904-1923.
Member American Guild of Organists.
