Daniel, John Warwick was born on September 5, 1842 in Lynchburg, Virginia, United States. Son of Judge William, Junior and Sarah A. (Warwick) Daniel.

Education

Educated at Lynchburg College and Doctor Gessner Harrison’s University School. (Doctor of Laws, Washington and Lee, 1883, University of Michigan, 1887). In C.S.A. of Northern Virginia throughout war.

Wounded 4 times; became adjutant general on General Early’s staff. Studied law, University of Virginia, 1865-1866. Admitted to bar, 1866.

Career

Member Virginia House of Delegates, 1869-1872, Senate, 1875-1881. Presidential elector, 1876. Defeated for government of Virginia, 1881.

Member 49th Congress (1885-1887). United States senator, 1887-1893, 1893-1899, 1899-1905, 1905-1911, and reëlected, January 1910, for term 1911-1917. Author: Attachments Under the Code of Virginia.
