Originated a new strawberry called the Hoffman Seedling Strawberry”. Demonstrated that a grade of tea can be grown in Florida that would be superior in every way to imported teas. Prepared for United States Department of Agriculture a dietary study of the kind and quality of food used by the Negro of the Black Belt” of the South, which has been translated into several languages for use by scientists.
Introduced farmers’ institutions among colored people of South.

Member of American Association for the Advancement of Science At Lagos, West Africa, 1903-1904, in service of British Colonial Department of Agriculture, as director of the cotton industry, engaged in introducing cotton growing into that country.
